Supply Chain Management and Product Life-Cycle Management

The high-level process map can be used to show the flow of information up and down the supply chain. This flow of information has been divided into two well know disciplines, Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Product Life Cycle Management (PLM). Different companies have specialized in providing solutions targeted to one discipline or the other. Some large ERP provider's attempt to do both. Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) addresses the need to communicate product and process definition while Supply Chain Management focuses on the physical movement of material and resources to where it is needed at the right time.
